Energy reactivated, Dream ruined

Last July 1, 2011, Energy FM returned to the airwaves in a new frequency, 106.7. It began with a stinger of the genie waking up Energy. As a result, Energy is not dreaming. It is now awake. It is now branded as 106.7 Energy FM (since Energy FM on Dream 106.7 is considered a very redundant brand). However, on June 4, its DJs & Programs debuted.

Speaking of 106.7, it used to be 106.7 Dream FM for the last 7 years. It was owned by TV5 for 18 years. It signed off last June 30, 2011 at 11:58pm. Prior to the sign off, station owner Tonyboy Cojuangco made an unfortunate & challenging move, which is, to team up with UBSI & air Energy FM. Reasonably, he wants to improve the format & spend less. Rebecca Sy, UBSI chairperson, said she expects to replicate its success and make it among the fastest growing media brands. With this, the partnership is the shortcut to the top. However, Dream FM continues its broadcast online.

Since Cojuangco bought TV5 7 years ago, he shouldn’t have reformatted Kool 106 to 106.7 Dream FM. Instead, he should have maintained Kool because it is a Hot AC (Masa) station, unlike Dream FM, which is a Smooth AC (Niche) station. Looks like Cojuangco is nowadays not doing anything to keep Dream FM at all. He should just maintain it. I know this is a huge disappointment to Dream FM listeners, but this is what happened & the decision is with Cojuangco’s hands.

Anyway, I may hope that Energy FM is happy with his new home on 106.7. And I hope that there will be less Masa stations.

What happened to 24K?

Several changes had been made in 99.5 RT’s 24K Weekend. Since May 15, 2011, at around 2am (later on 1am), the station resumed its regular programming. The day before, management decided to reduce its programming to only Saturday, thinking that other stations are playing oldies on a Sunday. And during the last Sundays, there were no special programs &, instead, it played automated music. Surprisingly, from then on there will be no 24K on a Sunday. It’s like 24K Saturday, the initial 24K.

The change wasn’t over yet. Around June, New Wave Xtra was reduced from 4 hrs. to 3 hrs., making 24K in the Mix end earlier at 1am. Recently, since July 2, 24K begins on Saturday 12mn & will end on Sunday 1am. It’s now similar to the 24K Friday version of 99.5 Hit FM, which airs Friday all day. I really want to know why 24K Weekend changed.

Energy out, Big in (or Energy out for this time)

After 8 years on air, Energy FM went off-the-air on the 91.5 frequency on June 1, 2011, a few minutes past midnight. A few days before it happened, after UR Face Radio was launched, this was announced. Energy FM is looking forward to moving to that high energy frequency, which is 105.9 this July 2011. And it will be a bigger, better & energetic Energy FM.

Earlier this morning at 1:15am, 91.5 Big Radio had its launch. It’s the 3rd invention of Manny Luzon, who created Energy FM & Win Radio. A few DJs from Win Radio also moved there. Obviously, Big Radio is like Energy FM because of its progressive programming that it has. I bet that it will bring down Win Radio, which is a copycat (no offense). And good luck with your broadcast, Big Radio.

Pinas FM 95.5 takes off!

Yesterday, after 4 years of going off the air, DWDM 95.5 launched a new, cool and pinoy station called Pinas FM 95.5. Its broadcast began at 4am with Gen Subardiaga’s Newsic, 2 hours of News & Music of the 80s. It is followed by DJs who were part of Pinoy Radio: Rick Stryker, Raymond Stone, Moody Jam, DJ Peachy and Coach Jiko.

It’s nice to hear this station once again on the air. I thought it would be gone for good, but it is now back, by popular demand. DWDM has been on the air since 1987 as Diamond 1987, playing Contemporary Hits. In 1992, it became Pinoy Radio DM 95.5, playing OPM. In 2002, it became simply DWDM 95.5, playing Contemporary Hits and Oldies. It went off the air in January 2007, returned in May 2007, but went off the air for good in June 2007. I have been listening to this station since 2001 and I was more familiar with the DWDM 95.5 era.

Now, Pinas FM 95.5 introduced something new in the Philippine Radio Industry: Pinoy CHR. To Pinas FM management, congratulations and keep on playing our favorite music!

Nar Pineda & Powerhouse Gang moves to DWSS

Last February 28, DZXQ broadcasters were informed that it would be their last broadcast because the station had been sold. We don’t know who bought it and their plans of the new owner is to close it down for the nest six months for no reason, which is strange. The new owner has installed a security guard to make sure – no doubt – that after today, no one will be allowed to enter the broadcast studio.

Among the affected broadcasters are Roger Arienda, Ruben Ilagan, Popo Villanueva Narissa Gonzalez, Jhino Parrucho, Roland Lumagbas, Dr. Erick San Juan,  Reggie Vizmanos, Roy Seneres, and many others. They have paid for their time up to the next six months and more. As blocktimers, they have advertising contracts that specify our broadcast times and stations. All of them got lawyers who will assist them in getting what is due us from the precipitous action of the new owners. They will soon be contacting DZXQ to inform both the new and previous owners what action we are taking against them.

As a result, since March 1, the Powerhouse Broadcasters DWSS 1494. Here is the weekday schedule:

7:30am – 8:00am: Roger Arienda

9:30am – 10:00am: Jhino Parucho

10:00am – 10:30am: Rollie Canon

10:30am – 11:00am: Ducky Paredes

11:00am – 11:3am: Ruben Ilagan

12:00nn – 12:30nn: Popo Villanueva

2:00pm – 2:30pm: Rolando Lumagbas

4:00pm – 4:30pm: Nar Pineda

4:30pm – 5:00pm: Erick San Juan.

Where is WRock?

It has been 10 months since WRock’s demise. As of May 2010, WRock online suspended its operations. At that time, its website is already dead. However, there are video archives in its Hayag website. Its last episode of Lite Rock Favorites was last April 17, 2010. After its revival online last 2008, WRock wasn’t the same. It only attracted listeners online & even in its relay stations in Bacolod & Davao. Now, WRock is no more. No announcement that it will suspend its operations, no goodbyes. I hope it’s back on air once again.
