Mangatarem National High School (MNHS) has always been a haven of musical ensembles. In the 1970s, there was the MNHS Rondalla composed of talented students under the leadership of then principal, Mr. Andres Seril. The 1980s proved to be a musically-filled decade through the MNHS Faculty Band that conquered Pangasinan and some parts of Luzon with their beautiful combo music that catered to both young and old alike. This was under the management of Mrs. Juliana B. Laoag.
Today, MNHS boasts of “Aniweng na Kwerdas” the newly formed Rondalla composed of students of the Special Program in the Arts who are inclined to playing stringed instruments. Under the direction of a multi-talented music master, Mr. Reynan N. Ayento, this musical ensemble is a collaborative effort of handful creative musical enthusiasts among the faculty members and generous spirits who upholds the joy the music brings.
Notwithstanding, its lack of instruments, for example, laud, octavina, bajo de arco and drum set, the group engages into different performances as it hopes to bring back the discriminating musical inclination and love for playing stringed instruments of the townspeople of Mangatarem. It also aspires to grow and be renowned as it showcases the incomparable music and culture of the Province of Pangasinan.
The MNHS Rondalla then is up to spreading cheer and happiness through its beautiful music.
