  • The first Valentine’s Day box of chocolates was introduced by Richard Cadbury in 1868.
  • Love birds and doves are the most endearing symbols of Valentine’s Day. Its origin stemmed from old beliefs that love birds find their mates on Feb 14. On the other hand, doves signify love and loyalty between couples. Unlike other animals, doves stay with a single partner all through their lives.
  • CUPID, the childlike winged deity is the son of  Venus, the Roman goddess of love. In Roman mythology, Cupid is known as EROS, the son of Aphrodite.
  • Valentine’s Day is primarily a lovers holiday. The ultimate flower icon are RED ROSES symbolizing romantic love and enduring passion.
  • About 15% of women in the USA send THEMSELVES flowers on Valentine’s Day (interesting huh?).
  • The first Valentine’s card is believed to have been sent by Charles Duc d’Orleans in 1415 to his wife while a prisoner in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt.The greeting is now a part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London.
  • The first commercial Valentine’s Day greeting cards were created by Esther A. Howland in the 1840s using real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures. She is known as the Mother of Valentine’s Day.
  • On Valentine’s Day, there is NO CHARGE to get married in the Empire State Building’s Chapel in New York City.

  • PHILIPPINES - LET THE LOVE BEGIN, a romantic film released by GMA Films, became the first Filipino film that topped the box office charts during its opening week ahead of foreign films. It was shown on Feb 14, 2005 and starred Richard Gutierrez, Mark Herras, Angel Locsin and Jennylyn Mercado.
  • Tragically on Feb 14, 2005, a series of bombings by suspected militants occurred in Makati and two Southern Philippine cities killing at least six people and over 90 others were wounded.
  • The Philippine Heart Center was inaugurated on Feb 14, 1975 and was graced by renowned cardiovascular experts such as Dr. Christiaan Barnard, Dr. Denton Cooley, Dr. Donald Effler and Dr. Charles Bailey. Its original name was the Philippine Heart Center for Asia and was changed to its current form in 1975. It was established by the former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.
  • On Feb 14, 2004, 5,122 Philippine couples gathered together at midnight and locked lips. This kissathon beat the previous wold record of 4,445 couples set in January in Chile.

  • The first kiss ever shown in a movie was in 1896. The title of the movie is “THE KISS”.
  • Fifty percent of all people had their ‘first kiss’ before the age of 14.
  • Hershey’s chocolate KISSES got the name because the machine that makes it looks like its kissing the conveyor’s belt.
