DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapuz - Oplan Balik Eskwela

Sec. Lapuz was interviewed by Ms. Nina Taduran if DEPED was really ready for the start of the school year..are there enough classrooms, teachers and text books?

According to Sec. Lapuz there are 550,000 DepEd employees with a total payroll of 105 billion pesos a year. Sec. Lapuz said that “one third ng buong gobyerno nandito sa DepEd, nasa contitution na dapat ito ang may pinakamalaking budget pero kulang pa rin kumpara sa ibang bansa”.

In addition Sec. Lapuz warned public schools not to force students to pay school fees as a prerequisite to enrollment. Contributions for upgrading of school facilities can only be collected from students on a voluntary basis. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Red Cross are the only entities that are authorized to collect.
