Sofia Revives An OPM Classic

SOFIA, dubbed “the fresh voice of bossa” continues to prove herself worthy of the tag with another single off her latest album “In Love With Nova Bossa.” This time she revives a classic in “Hulog Ng Langit,” an Edith Gallardo / Moi Ortiz written number which is the second single to be promoted from her excellent second album. A few months back, Sofia was awarded her first gold record award for her praiseworthy efforts on her debut album “Bossa Latino Lite” where she ably covers the bossanova classics “Waters Of March” and “Desafinado” written by the genre’s acknowledged pioneer, Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Sofia continues to turn on listeners to her brand of bossa with her warm singing voice, charming allure and it also helps that the young bossa singer is a talented multi-instrumentalist, playing finger-style acoustic guitar, some violin, and the traditional Irish drum called the bohdrun.
In Love With Nova Bossa, also includes “Falsa Baiana” a cover of the theme song from “Women On Top”, the club-cum-samba “Moro Na Roca”, the jazzy Cole Porter masterpiece “Night And Day” and the Louie Armstrong gem “What A Wonderful World.” Then there’s the memorable pop songs “Sad To Belong” , “I’ll Take Care Of You” , “Birthday song” as well as duets with R&B singer Thor on “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and The Beatles “I Will”.
All in all, the new album is a mix of eighteen close-to-the-genuine-article-kind-of-bossa, at times relaxing, melodious and at the same time rhythm inducing to keep listeners on time with the uptempo bossa numbers. Also out on all record bars is the double CD treat simply entitled SOFIA that contains all songs from Bossa Latino Lite and In Love With Nova Bossa. All albums are available under the Ivory Music & Video label.
Can’t wait to listen to this great bosa nova sound? In the coming days or months we will be posting sample track of Sofia’s album.
